But detoxification in Ayurveda goes beyond food.

It also includes daily practices that you can use to stimulate the body’s natural cleansing pathways, such as:

oil pulling
tongue scraping
nasal cleansing / neti pot
lymphatic stimulation by abyhanga and dry brushing
warm herbal tea (the ayurvedic detoxing tea)

Together these practices support the body’s innate ability to clear out stagnation that has build up during the winter (kapha energy) and restore balance.

Traditionally, Ayurvedic detoxes are performed during seasonal transitions — especially in spring and autumn — when the body naturally shifts between energetic states.

At these moments the body is already preparing to release what has accumulated in the previous season.

The detox simply supports a process that the body is already trying to do.

And often, when the body begins to release…

something deeper begins to move as well.

Old emotions.
Old patterns.
Old layers of fatigue.

Because in Ayurveda, true detoxification is never only physical.

It is also a return to clarity — in the body, the mind and the deeper self.

What is an Ayurvedic Detox?

An Ayurvedic detox is not about forcing the body to purge.
It is about
creating the conditions where the body can release what it no longer needs.

In Ayurveda, cleansing happens through supporting the digestive fire (Agni) and gently allowing accumulated toxins — known as Ama — to be eliminated from the system.

Ama forms when digestion becomes sluggish and substances begin to stagnate in the body. Over time this can manifest as:

fatigue and heaviness
fluid retention
brain fog
digestive discomfort
inflammation
mysterious or low-grade symptoms that feel difficult to explain

Rather than aggressively removing foods or starving the body, Ayurvedic detoxification works through nature, the doshas and elements.

For a short period of time, the diet becomes extremely simple and easy to digest. This gives the digestive system a chance to rest and redirect energy toward cleansing and restoration and to build Ojas (the vitality force of life).

During the detox you eat a traditional Ayurvedic dish called Kitchari — a warm, nourishing combination of rice, mung beans and digestive spices that provides both protein and carbohydrates while remaining gentle on digestion.

This allows the body to remain deeply nourished while releasing stagnation

It’s time to let go of all the stimuli and let your senses rest into sacredness

What Happens During an Ayurvedic Detox?

When the body is given simplicity, it naturally begins to reorganize itself.

During the detox you temporarily reduce dietary and sensory complexity through stimulae so your system can redirect energy toward digestion, cleansing, letting go and restoration.

Many people experience a natural rhythm during the first three days:

Day 1 — Rising Energy
The digestive system receives a break from complex foods. Many people feel a rise in prana (life force), lightness and mental clarity.

Day 2 — Release
The body begins moving stagnation. This can feel like tiredness, emotions surfacing, or a temporary drop in energy. This is completely normal.

Day 3 — Relief
Digestion begins resetting, and many people experience a sense of calm, lightness or renewed energy.

You may continue the detox for up to 7 days if you wish.

Every body is different — but the intention is always the same:

To create space for the body to restore its natural balance. For you to return to your Soul’s Alignment

Why I Created This Detox

My name is Roa Mølgaard.

I am a Medical Doctor working with Holistic Health and Healing through Ayurveda, herbal medicine and integrative healing practices.

Over the years I have seen the same pattern again and again:

Many people feel overwhelmed and depleted by extreme detox protocols, restrictive diets and conflicting health advice.

But traditional Ayurvedic cleansing was never meant to be harsh.

It was designed to be supportive, nourishing and deeply intelligent, working with the natural rhythms of the body and elements rather than against them.

This detox is my way of making that ancient wisdom simple and accessible — so you can experience how powerful gentle healing can be.

Because often the body does not need more force.

It simply needs space, nourishment and the right conditions to restore itself.

This Detox Is Perfect For You If You Feel…

Heavy, sluggish or stagnant after winter

This detox will give you a simple, structured way to support your body — while also reconnecting with deeper layers of yourself.

Why Spring Is the Best Time to Detox

In Ayurveda, detoxification is traditionally performed in harmony with the seasons, when the body is naturally preparing to release what has accumulated.

During winter, the body shifts into a Kapha state as winter is dominated by the dosha Kapha.
Kapha is the energy of stability, structure and nourishment — but it also carries qualities of heaviness, coldness and stagnation.

Over the winter months this can naturally lead to the buildup of:

Mucus and congestion
Fluid retention
Slower digestion
Fatigue or sluggishness
A feeling of heaviness in body and mind

When spring arrives, nature begins to warm up with the energy of Pitta.

And we want to support the natural transition so that we can use the energy of pittas fire to create instead of being stuck in winter.
The accumulated Kapha begins to melt and mobilize in spring time when the natural seasons start shifting from kapha til pitta, which is why many people notice symptoms such as:

Allergies
Sinus congestion
Increased mucus
Digestive changes
Sudden fatigue or emotional sensitivity

From an Ayurvedic perspective, these are not random problems. They are signs that the body is trying to cleanse itself.

A spring detox simply supports this natural transition. By simplifying the diet and supporting digestion, the body can release what winter has stored — rather than holding onto it.
In many ways, a spring detox is less about forcing change… and more about moving with the rhythm of nature.
Just as the earth sheds winter and begins to bloom again, your body is given the opportunity to release what no longer belongs to this season of your life.

FAQ

    • pregnant
    • severely underweight
    • recovering from severe illness
    • dealing with active eating disorders

When in doubt, always consult your healthcare provider.

  • You can do it anytime that fits you. In traditional Ayurveda it is recommended to do 2 times a year and is very beneficial to do at spring and autumn.

  • It is recommended to do it only 3-7 days.

  • No.

During the detox you eat three full meals per day of Kitchari — a traditional Ayurvedic dish made from rice, mung beans and digestive spices.

Kitchari provides both protein, carbohydrates and warming spices, making it deeply satisfying while still being easy for the digestive system to process.

You eat until you feel comfortably nourished.

If you are sensitive to low blood sugar, you can also eat 1–3 dates between meals.

This detox is not about deprivation.

    It is about simplification.

  • When done properly and at the right time of year, seasonal detoxification has been part of Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.

The key difference is that Ayurveda does not attempt to force the body to cleanse.

Instead, it supports the body through:

    • simple, digestible food
    • warm herbal teas
    • daily cleansing practices
    • reducing overstimulation

This allows the body to naturally release stagnation without stress.

  • This is actually quite common.

When the body begins releasing stagnation, emotions that have been stored in the system may also surface.

Rather than something being wrong, this is often a sign that deeper layers are moving.

The masterclass recommends journaling to help you hold space for whatever arises.
